Artist's Comments

Just a quickie portrait of Niko,
however I did realise 2 important things:
#1 - I need to practice light/shade more often
#2 - the amount of life and presence the GTA artist puts into the characters is genius!
(have a look at what I mean [link])

You're an expert at knowing just where to block in light and dark tones!
A lot of artists like to go into detail with even smaller brushes afterwards, but I've always thought your style is especially nice and distinct because of its stark quality.

Well, that's part of the allure of the game is it not? That you have such a realistic characters, they could almost be real, and you get to control their lives.

Yes, but the game itself wasn't what I was referring to,
I meant the promotional artwork of the characters themselves, they appear so lifelike and as if the have a history and presence!
I think the artist must've studied people and photographs of faces,
it's only when your go to draw these things yourself that you realise the skill involved~

I totally agree, there's a lot of people who take art for granted and they believe they would be able to do just as well or even better. It isn't until they learn to draw that they realize just how hard something can be, and the skills they have to develop to achieve that level.
